Since the Wuri Chenggong East Road Community Drainage Improvement Project was completed at the end of April 2011, after several heavy rainfall events, the drainage box culvert improvement project has gradually achieved results, and there has been no flooding in recent years. The Water Conservancy Bureau of the Taichung City Government stated that no flooding has been reported in Chenggong Community in Wuri District due to the recent storm. The Water Conservancy Bureau sent personnel to inspect and improve the drainage roads, but there was no siltation or obstruction, and the drainage roads were flowing smoothly.
The Water Conservancy Bureau explained that the alleys in Chenggong Community are narrow and the drainage in the entire area has a “large intestine connected to the small intestine” situation, resulting in an ineffective diversion effect. This is the main reason why Chenggong Community was always flooded during heavy rains in the past. The improvement project involves re-installing a drainage box culvert with a total length of 75 meters to connect to the existing drainage ditch upstream to drain water into the successful drainage, reducing the amount of runoff entering the community and avoiding flooding.
The Water Conservancy Bureau further explained that last year, the Water Conservancy Bureau also carried out dredging and maintenance of the drainage ditch under the road next to No. 138 Chenggong East Road near the flooding point, and no further flooding occurred after the heavy rain.
