(Central News Agency reporter Li Zongxian, Jakarta, 25th) Indonesian Vice President An Ming said yesterday that Indonesia should learn from the experience of developed countries in using science and technology in disaster management, and named Taiwan as one of the most worthy countries to learn from. He said that a strong earthquake occurred in Taiwan, but it was still able to minimize casualties and damage. Indonesia must imitate Taiwan’s disaster management capabilities.

Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin attended the National Disaster Management Coordination Meeting held in Bandung yesterday. He said at the meeting that it is very important for Indonesia to learn from the disaster management experience of developed countries, including disaster prevention, disaster reduction, Disaster preparedness, emergency response and recovery.

Indonesian business media “Bisnis” reported that An Ming pointed out at the meeting that Taiwan is one of the most worthy countries for Indonesia to learn disaster management, and explained that despite the recent earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 (Taiwan measured 7.2), Taiwan can still manage the disaster. Loss of life and damage are minimized.

An Ming said: “At the beginning of this month, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake occurred in Taiwan, causing huge shaking, destruction and casualties, but it was able to minimize (the disaster) through the early warning system.” Therefore, he asked Indonesia to immediately follow Taiwan’s example. Leverage technology to enhance disaster management.
