(Central News Agency reporter Xu Zhiwei, Taipei, 25th) In gratitude for the outstanding contributions of the late outstanding alumnus and honorary doctor Chen Qikuan, National Central University today donated the asteroid number 236851 Chen Qikuan to his family to commemorate Chen Qikuan’s outstanding achievements in the world of architecture and art.

Central University issued a press release today stating that this year coincides with Chen Qikuan’s 103rd birthday. The Tainan City Art Museum launched the “Chen Qikuan: Hyperbolic Symphony” commemorative exhibition, which focuses on “life”, “visual imagery”, “universe” and “architecture and family”. “The four major themes present Chen Qikuan’s architectural and artistic achievements throughout his life.

Chen Qikuan is an architect and artist. His paintings break through the conventions of traditional Chinese painting and combine Western architectural concepts with natural imagery. He was awarded the 1st Outstanding Architect of the Republic of China in 1995 and the Fine Arts Award from the National Culture and Arts Foundation in 2004. National Literary Award.

Zhou Jingyang, president of Central University, said that Chen Qikuan is an outstanding alumnus of Central University and was invited to serve as the master planner of the campus building of his alma mater in Chungli. The campus is carefully designed based on Chen Qikuan’s well-field chessboard concept. The green and white Chiang Kai-shek Library is located on the central axis of the campus and has a patio. The garden is at the heart of the campus and symbolizes the source of knowledge.

In recognition of Chen Qikuan’s contribution to the campus planning and architecture of Central University, Central University today presented the Chen Qikuan asteroid No. 236851 to his family to pay tribute to Chen Qikuan; the Chen Qikuan asteroid was discovered on September 15, 2007 by Lin Qisheng and the Lulin Observatory of Central University.
