(Central News Agency reporters Huang Xusheng and Wang Hongguo, New Taipei City, 21st) A fatal car accident occurred at Lane 50, Chenggong Road, Sanchong District, New Taipei City today. The passenger car turning left was suspected of not yielding to the motorcycle going straight; after the collision between the two parties, the motorcycle rider surnamed Huang was sent to the hospital for emergency treatment and died. Police said they were adjusting surveillance cameras to determine the cause and responsibility.
The Municipal Fire Department stated that at 8:23 a.m., it was reported that there was a car and motorcycle accident at the intersection of Lane 50, Chenggong Road and Huanhenan Road, Sanchong District. The patient was a male motorcycle rider; when he arrived at the scene, the rider suffered OHCA (no breathing, no heartbeat) , gave first aid and sent him to the Sanchong Campus of New Taipei City United Hospital.
Sanchong police said that preliminary investigation revealed that the car accident occurred when a man surnamed Zeng was driving a car. When he was about to turn left from Huanhe South Road into Lane 50 of Chenggong Road, he was suspected of not giving way to a knight surnamed Huang who was traveling straight on a motorcycle in the opposite direction, and the two parties collided. Mr. Huang was sent to the hospital for emergency treatment but still died.
The police said that based on the accident scene mapping records and the intersection surveillance footage, the cause of the accident and the responsibility were clarified.
An employee of a car repair shop in front of the scene of the car accident told a reporter from Central News Agency that when turning left from Huanhe South Road into Lane 50 of Chenggong Road, the green light would conflict with the green traffic going straight in the opposite direction. The through vehicle going to Chongqiao will be blocked by the vehicle in the waiting area on the left at the accident intersection, making it impossible to detect the opposite left-turning vehicle. When the two parties meet at the intersection, due to their visual blind spots, they often have no time to brake and collide.
Employees said that car accidents occur frequently in the local area, and even two car accidents with fatalities and injuries occur in one week. They have repeatedly reported that the adjustment of traffic signals has failed. They hope that the city government will take advantage of today’s fatal car accident to pay attention to human life and improve it as soon as possible.
Lin Zhaoxian, chief of the traffic control engineering section of the Transportation Bureau, said that he will go to the site to investigate this case and adjust the diversion and stop signals if necessary to reduce traffic accidents. (Editor: Li Xizhang) 1121121
