Our representative in the United States, Xiao Meiqin, became the deputy partner of Democratic Progressive Party presidential candidate Lai Qingde yesterday afternoon. She first went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday morning to report on her duties and at the same time tendered her resignation to Foreign Minister Wu Zhaoxie. The government and the opposition pointed out that Xiao Meiqin has a complementary and bonus effect on Lai Qingde; however, some scholars believe that Xiao’s bonus points for Lai are limited, and Taiwan-US relations should not be overly optimistic.
