New news breaks out in OpenAI’s personnel drama! According to The Information, after they fired Sam Altman, they contacted their rival company Anthropic to promote a merger and let the other party’s CEO Dario Amodei take over Altman’s position. The extent of the communication between the two companies is unknown, but sources say Amodei quickly rejected OpenAI’s proposal because of his current position.
Anthropic currently also has a lot of attention in the large model industry. Their Claude chatbot competes with ChatGPT. It is difficult to say how much merger value OpenAI has without Altman (and a large number of employees who may leave with him). Coupled with the recent incomprehensible actions of the board of directors, the current OpenAI may have become a hot potato.
