F1 (Formula One) returned to the “Sports City” Las Vegas after 40 years. Last weekend, many entertainers and stars from all walks of life participated in the event, including former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal. In an interview, he bluntly stated that he hopes to own an NBA team in the future, regardless of whether Lakers superstar LeBron James joins the team or not.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has revealed that if the new broadcast rights contract is completed in 2025, the league will consider expansion, and Las Vegas and Seattle are considered by the outside world as the first choices. O’Neal has previously stated that he wants to own his own team and does not plan to cooperate with others, and James has also stated that he wants to run a team in Las Vegas.
However, O’Neal softened his attitude during an interview in Las Vegas last week. He said, “If an NBA team comes here, I will definitely be involved. Whether there is James or not, I want to be a part of the team.”
After retiring, O’Neal ran a successful side business. He was once a shareholder of the Kings and is said to have assets of more than $400 million. In an interview, he revealed that he intends to run various teams, “American football is possible, basketball is definitely, not baseball. There are two types of bosses, one is just to show off assets; and I like to be an investor who makes decisions. I want to be part of the decision-making process.”
Las Vegas has been welcomed by various professional leagues in recent years, welcoming the NHL (ice hockey) Golden Knights, NFL (American football) Las Vegas Raiders, WNBA Las Vegas Aces and F1 Grand Prix, MLB The Athletics are also determined to move to the Las Vegas Strip.
