--

Wetzlar, Leica Camera AG today launches the Leitz Phone 3. This is the third new smartphone launched by Leica, which features optimized imaging and the addition of new extraordinary features, such as new Leitz filters and “variable aperture.” With this powerful smartphone, Leica Camera AG continues its more than 100-year company history and once again emphasizes its pursuit of the highest level of technological innovation.

New iconic design

The Leica brand is inseparable from photography and quality. Over the past 100 years, it has established a unique connection between users and cameras. Based on this tradition, the Leitz Phone series has been continuously optimized to become even closer to the Leica brand.

Reflecting Leica’s passion for focusing on essential functions, the new model’s body combines beauty and functionality with a unique feel inspired by iconic Leica cameras. The back of the body has a fine polyacrylic texture that feels like holding a high-quality Leica camera.

The device’s iconic design is also reflected in the user interface and user experience. The operating components have been redesigned, making the overall layout clearer and more user-friendly. This makes it easier to find and use typical Leica features such as Golden Hour and LFI widgets.

The Golden Hour widget was developed specifically for Leitz Phone and displays the golden hours before sunset and after sunrise. During this time, the light is especially mild, perfect for taking spectacular photos. The LFI widget was also developed specifically for the Leitz Phone and continuously displays shots from the Leica Fotografie International Galerie – a platform carefully designed for Leica photographers around the world.

Capture the moments like a professional photographer

The core of this camera is the rear camera system, which is equipped with a wide-angle lens with an effective resolution of 47.2 million pixels and a 1-inch CMOS image sensor. Octa PDAF delivers fast and precise focus, allowing for impressive photos even in difficult conditions. The 12.6-megapixel front camera has a large field of view (FOV) of 78°. The impressive F2.3 aperture enables excellent selfies and video calls.

Take professional images with Leica Perspective Control

“Leica Perspective Control” is a software function previously only used in Leica cameras, which has entered the field of smartphone photography for the first time. It can be used to trim drop lines, especially when doing architectural photography. The gyroscope measures the camera angle at the time of shooting. Then, the correction data is calculated through an algorithm. The corrected image will appear as a white rectangle with edges around the image. Important for professionals: corrections are processed only in the JPG file, the digital negative format (DNG) remains unchanged.

The Leitz Phone 3 is characterized by being thin, light and compact, making it particularly user-friendly. Weighing only 209 grams, it strikes the perfect balance between style and functionality. At the heart is the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2 chipset. Enables efficient multitasking and seamless user experience. With a 5,000 mAh battery capacity, it can provide enough power for a full day of work or entertainment. The device also supports wireless charging.

New Leitz filters and Leica tints

A new feature of Leitz Filter Camera Mode is “variable aperture”. It can simulate multiple apertures of the most famous Leica lenses Noctilux-M 1:1.2/50 mm, Summilux-M 1:1.4/28 mm and Summilux-M 1:1.4/35 mm. This is a unique software function that can adjust the blur effect of photos by selecting various aperture levels from F1.2 or 1.4 to F8. Depending on the lens, this feature has six or seven aperture levels, allowing for unique creative control over photos.

The device also features the ability to simulate the physical effects of each of the three Leica lenses for the M System, resulting in stunning images.
