The Railway Bureau announced today that the legendary “38 degrees” that separated South and North Kaohsiung since 1907 The line is about to break and disappear.

The Railway Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation pointed out that when the underground Kaohsiung Railway opened to traffic on October 14, 2018, only the southern semicircle (front station) of the sunken square of Kaohsiung Station was opened, and the northern semicircle of the rear station could not be excavated until the underground was opened to traffic. In conjunction with the phased opening, a temporary supporting partition wall was set up in the center, and 7 huge SRC structural columns were used as temporary supports for the ceiling.

The Railway Administration emphasized that the wall temporarily supporting the dividing wall is 55.8 meters wide, 6.14 meters high and 60 centimeters thick. Now that the back station area project is about to be completed, the task of temporarily supporting the wall is also coming to an end. The legendary “38th parallel” that separated south and north Kaohsiung since 1907 is about to be broken and disappear.

The project adopts a cutting method to reduce the impact of crushing on the noise and vibration of the station operation. In conjunction with the decoration project, after the temporary support wall is removed, it will still be blocked by a construction fence. The overall project is expected to be completed before the end of this year.

As the cloud ceiling of Taiwan Railway Kaohsiung Station is about to close, after the central sunken plaza dividing wall is removed, the north and south semicircles will soon become a circle.
