(Central News Agency reporter Shen Peiyao, Taipei, 26th) Research by Beirong’s team found that in the past, persistent depression (TRD) was thought to be caused by stress. In fact, it is highly related to the brain and is hereditary in families. The risk of developing the disease in first-degree relatives increases by nine times. This is the first study to confirm that there is a genetic risk for persistent depression.

This study was accepted for publication in JAMA Psychiatry, an international journal in the psychiatric field, and reported as a special article by CNN in April this year. Li Zhengda, director of the Emotional Precision Medicine Center of the Department of Psychiatry, Taipei General Hospital, said in a telephone interview with the media today that most studies have found that when one person in the family suffers from mental illness, the chance of others suffering from the disease is 1 to 3 times.

This study further confirmed that Li Zhengda pointed out that when there are people in the familypersistent depression

Encyclopedia of stubborn depression

Clinically, it has been found that some patients with depression have no obvious effect on drug treatment and psychological treatment, which is called treatment-resistant depression or treatment-resistant depression (TRD).

There are currently a variety of novel treatments for refractory depression. Some of the new generation “anti-schizophrenia drugs” can supplement antidepressant drugs and improve the efficacy of antidepressant drugs in the treatment of refractory depression cases; or use other than drugs. Physiological treatments include various light and electrical therapies that promote brain activity.

(TRD) patients, the chance of first-degree relatives suffering from other mental illnesses is not only increased by 2 to 3 times, such as anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, bipolar disorder, and evenSchizophrenia

About schizophrenia

  • What is schizophrenia? Schizophrenia is a brain disease with disordered thinking and perception. It was formerly known as “schizophrenia”. Because the name was stereotyped, the name was changed in 2014. The prevalence rate in Taiwan is about 3 per 1,000, and more than half develop the disease before the age of 30. Due to an unexplained imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain, patients often experience symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, or poor concentration. If not actively treated, it will worsen to the point where they are unable to take care of themselves.
  • How is schizophrenia treated? Will you be fine if you take medicine? Medication can reduce symptoms such as hallucinations or delusions, and recovery will be better if you seek medical attention early and receive regular outpatient treatment. In addition, the Ministry of Health and Welfare also pointed out that through independent community treatment, supportive psychotherapy or occupational therapy, patients can be helped to develop work skills or adjust their psychological quality. Cooperation from all parties can further help patients stabilize their condition and return to normal social life.

etc., the risk of suffering from stubborn depression is significantly increased by 9.16 times.

Li Zhengda said that in the past, most people believed that persistent depression (TRD) was closely related to “psychological stress.” Although more and more studies have shown that there may be a problem with the brain, there is a lack of large-scale research support. Is it physiological or psychological that accounts for a higher proportion?

The Beirong team analyzed the medical treatment data of Chinese people and connected different databases to confirm the genetic risk of TRD. Li Zhengda said that it also indirectly supports that TRD has a high degree of biological cause, that is, it has more obvious brain abnormalities.

However, Li Zhengda said that families with patients with stubborn depression do not need to worry too much. As long as they pay more attention to physical and mental health and stress tolerance, the risk of disease may not be realized, and there are currently diversified treatments for stubborn depression. Novel treatment methods include various light and electric therapies that promote brain activity, and there are also new drugs that can promote activation of the prefrontal lobe. As long as early treatment is given, symptoms will be improved quickly. (Editor: Chen Zhengwei) 1130426
