Kaohsiung City Councilor Jian Huanzong said on the 26th that he has decided not to run for chairman of the Kaohsiung City Party Committee of the Democratic Progressive Party. He has the same idea as Mayor Chen Qimai about the party committee chairperson. He hopes that the party committee chairman can serve as a communication platform that transcends factions and can promote the party. Internally united people. Therefore, he supports Chen Huiwen, the chairman candidate who was not nominated by a faction, and hopes that the chairman election process will be smooth, harmonious and peaceful.

Jian Huanzong said on Facebook that the most important thing about this year’s party headquarters reelection is the upcoming round of 2026. However, the Kuomintang has already been integrated, and Ke Zhien has already taken a fighting position, taking over as chairman of the Kuomintang’s Kaohsiung City Party Headquarters and becoming the 2026 Kuomintang Kaohsiung mayoral candidate.

Jian Huanzong mentioned that in the 2022 Kaohsiung City Council primary election, he questioned the then Kaohsiung City Party Committee Chairman Zhao Tianlin’s public support for the selection of his own disciples, and there were many confrontations and conversations. He believes that the memory of advanced comrades in the party is still fresh in his mind.

Jian Huanzong said that then, in this year’s legislative election, with 70 days left until the voting, there was a withdrawal incident in the Sixth District of Kaohsiung City. Within 24 hours of the incident, he announced that he would not participate in the legislative election and said that he would do his best to support the selection of candidates recruited by the party. This is not because he personally does not want to participate in the election campaign, but because he knows that competing for a seat at this time will definitely not benefit the election of Kaohsiung legislators.

Jian Huanzong pointed out that the most important thing is to give Mayor Chen Qimai more space to coordinate the possibility of Huang Wenyi and Guo Jianmeng running for the Legislative Council. Therefore, when it was announced that Huang Jie would run across districts, he went all out to assist Huang Jie in the election. Two weeks ago, he reported to Mayor Chen Qimai that he wanted to run for chairman. The mayor reminded him that the competition should not be too fierce. After all, the position of chairman must play the role of coordinating factions in order to smoothly promote elections and assist municipal development.

Jian Huanzong believes that if the party is in close combat during the chairman election, and such competition extends from the chairman election to the mayoral primary election, it is undeniable that the history of 2018 may repeat itself again. We must remember the lessons learned in 2018, so we must be more united in order for Kaohsiung to continue to move forward. It is not easy to have the courage to bear, but it is even more difficult to have the courage to let go.
