(Central News Agency reporter Chen Junhua, Taipei, 26th) There have been 13 accidental track incidents on the Kaohsiung Light Rail so far this year. Supervisory Committee members Zhang Jufang and Lin Guoming visited Kaohsiung City on the 25th to pay attention to the analysis and response strategies of Kaohsiung light rail traffic accidents. They hope that the Kaohsiung City Government can implement various improvement measures to help the people adapt to light rail transportation.

A Kaohsiung light rail train collided with a car at the Nanping intersection at noon on March 21. Kaohsiung City Councilor Zheng Mengzhen of the Democratic Progressive Party pointed out during a question on April 17 that after the Kaohsiung Light Rail Line was opened to traffic on New Year’s Day, incidents of cars and locomotives accidentally running onto the track occurred one after another. According to statistics, there were 22 incidents last year and 13 incidents so far this year.

Zhang Jufang and Lin Guoming stated through a press release that after arriving in Kaohsiung City on the 25th, they first met with Kaohsiung City Speaker Kang Yucheng to care about local people’s conditions and exchange views on issues such as the reconstruction of dilapidated old buildings, Dalin Puqian Village, and underground petrochemical pipelines. He also paid a visit to Kaohsiung City Deputy Mayor Luo Dasheng to exchange opinions on renewable water resources, reconstruction of dilapidated buildings, and response to light rail accidents.

The Supervisory Committee pointed out that on the morning of the 26th, they went to the Transportation Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government to listen to a briefing to understand the analysis and response strategies of Kaohsiung light rail traffic accidents, and to pay attention to the effectiveness of technology law enforcement, reinforcement measures for technology law enforcement sections that have not been built, and the reasons for frequent accident locations. Improvement strategies, light rail operating volume and public complaints, light rail operating profits and losses, penalty standards and fines for violations, and the effectiveness of the traffic control center functions, etc.

After the briefing, the Supervisory Committee also conducted an on-site inspection of Qianzhen Street, which has a large number of accidents. The Supervisory Committee expressed the hope that when the Kaohsiung City Government develops rail transportation, it can implement various improvement measures to help the people adapt to light rail transportation.

The Supervisory Committee stated that on the afternoon of the 26th, they received a briefing on the “Implementation Situation of the Long-term Care Policy.” The Supervisory Committee pays attention to long-term care medical personnel and social workers, long-term care manpower training and measures to improve retention rates, plans and specific actions of long-term care smart technology, long-term care service quality evaluation, deployment of long-term care institutions in rural and indigenous areas, and dementia Issues such as elder abuse care and caring mechanisms for high-load family caregivers.
