(Central News Agency reporter Yu Xiaohan, Taipei, 26th) The Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications signed a memorandum of cooperation (MOU) with the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial Hall today, hoping that through active cooperation, religious tourism will become one of Taiwan’s characteristic tourism themes.

According to a press release issued by the Tourism Administration, the two parties will jointly promote regional tourism in southern Taiwan by exchanging and cooperating on sustainable tourism, connecting sightseeing circles, marketing and event promotion, and integrating attractions around the Buddha Memorial Hall.

Director of Tourism Zhou Yonghui said that the Buddha Memorial Hall is a religious holy place and a good place for family outings in Southern Taiwan, experiencing Buddhist culture and viewing art exhibitions. You can also take a tour of the surrounding Maolin and Dapeng Bay National Scenic Areas to discover local characteristic attractions. The Tourism Department is planning to link up the ten major cultural exhibition halls in southern Taiwan including the Buddha Memorial Hall. Through the promotion of exhibition hall activities and special exhibitions, it will drive tourists from the north to the south and create a new tourism trend in southern Taiwan.

Master Ru Chang, director of the Buddha Memorial Hall, said that the memorial hall upholds the belief of “Humanistic Buddhism” and is committed to Buddhist culture and art, net-zero green living and carbon reduction, sustainable development goals (SDGs) and cultural tourism.
