Tainan City has a close relationship with Japan’s Yamaguchi Prefecture. The parliaments of both parties and the county and city governments of both sides reached a dual alliance in 2023. Officials and private citizens of Yamaguchi County have also visited Tainan many times. Huang Weizhe said that Taiwan and Japan have close and friendly relations. Tainan City and Yamaguchi County also have frequent exchanges with the support of Governor Muraoka and the parliament. Since the two counties and cities established an alliance in July last year, Governor Muraoka, Deputy Speaker Shimada and others have even attended in person. Tainan has hosted the opening ceremony of the Taiwan Lantern Festival for the past 16 years. In addition to personally thanking Yamaguchi for his support, this return visit coincides with Tainan 400 and hopes to promote diverse exchanges in the future, including school exchanges, cultural and artistic exchanges, etc., not only to highlight the friendship between the two sides, but also to It also allows younger generations to learn from each other.

Yamaguchi County Chairman Liu Jujunxue said that the Yamaguchi County Council formed an alliance with the Tainan City Council in 2021, and the two sides have continued friendly exchanges. In February this year, the Japan-Taiwan Friendship Yamaguchi County Councillors’ Alliance visited Tainan and received a warm reception. Exchanges between Japan and Taiwan in local governments and many fields are progressing smoothly. Especially in the current chaotic international situation, we hope that through the efforts of the parliament, we can enhance bilateral local and people-to-people exchanges and promote Taiwan-Japan friendship.

Huang Weizhe also introduced Tainan 400 and related commemorative activities to all walks of life in Yamaguchi County, including the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Summit and other activities. He welcomed Governor Muraoka and all good friends from Yamaguchi County to visit Tainan again and taste Tainan’s delicious fruits and food. In addition, an invitation letter to the Tainan 400 Marathon was specially sent to Governor Muraoka, who loves marathon sports, and invited him to participate.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed the feasibility of further cooperation between Yamaguchi and Tainan in areas such as expanding chartered flights, promoting tourism, Wagyu exchanges, semiconductor industry exchanges, and student exchange competitions.
