(Central News Agency reporter He Xiuling, Taipei, 26th) The French public health agency said today that under government orders, the mineral water brand Perrier has destroyed 2 million bottles of sparkling water suspected of being contaminated by “fecal” bacteria. Some channels in Taiwan stated that they had taken preventive measures from the shelves; others pointed out that the products in the store and the affected products had different batch numbers.

France’s Directorate General of Health (DGS) said in a document shared with AFP that the health authorities of the southern Occitanie region asked Nestlé’s mineral water company in France to destroy the products produced between March 10 and 14 this year. All Peliya products produced from a water source near Nimes.

Nestle, the Swiss food company that owns Perluya, said that about 2 million bottles of water were destroyed “as a precautionary measure” and that Perluya bottled water sold in stores is safe.

Since Peluya is available on the shelves in Taiwanese supermarkets, supermarkets, and mass merchandisers, Uni-President Supermarket and Quanlian Supermarket only said that they are in the process of internal confirmation; FamilyMart said that after confirming with the supplier, the products in the store and the affected products have different batch numbers.

Carrefour said that both Carrefour and top supermarket Mia C’bon have been taken off the shelves as a precaution; Aimai said that it will fully cooperate with the manufacturers to deal with it. (Editor: Zhang Liangzhi) 1130426
